June 14, 2018

Richard Miyamoto, MD, the otolaryngologist who made cochlear implants widely accessible, was honored earlier this month with the IU School of Medicine Ritchey Emeriti Faculty Award. Miyamoto, retired chair of the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, is a pioneer in the field who helped thousands of people hear as a result of his groundbreaking research and advocacy related to cochlear implants.

The emeriti faculty award is named after the late IU School of Medicine alumnus and faculty leader J.O. Ritchey and recognizes an emeritus faculty member whose service to the school continues after retirement.
