Gov. Pence appoints Nalin and Becker to Graduate Medical Education Board

November 5, 2015

Peter Nalin, M.D., executive associate dean for educational affairs, IU School of Medicine, and Steven Becker, M.D., director and associate dean, IU School of Medicine-Evansville, were recently appointed by Indiana Governor Mike Pence to serve on the Graduate Medical Education Board. The board oversees expansion of medical education in Indiana through the funding of new residency program slots at licensed hospitals.

Medical residents in Indiana will benefit from the newly established medical residency education fund.

Drs. Nalin and Becker were instrumental in developing plans for the medical residency education fund, which the board oversees, and initiating the request for state funding. The Graduate Medical Education Board was established this year through a bill signed into law by Gov. Pence in May.

Paul Haut, M.D., IUSM associate professor of pediatrics, was also appointed to the board.
